Setting Up Google Drive API with a Service Account
This guide walks you through setting up the Google Drive API using a Service Account. It is tailored for integrating with applications like Odoo, enabling server-to-server file uploads. This document is based on the original guide by Digital Inspiration, with rephrased steps to ensure clarity and avoid plagiarism.
1. Create a Google Cloud Project
Visit the Google Cloud Console: https://console.cloud.google.com/
Click on the project dropdown at the top and select 'New Project'.
Provide a name for your project and click 'Create'.
Wait for the project to be initialized.
2. Enable Google APIs
In the dashboard of your newly created project, click on 'APIs & Services' > 'Library'.
Search for 'Google Drive API'.
Click on it and then click 'Enable'.
3. Create a Service Account
Navigate to 'APIs & Services' > 'Credentials'.
Click on 'Create Credentials' and choose 'Service Account'.
3a. Describe the Service Account
Enter a name and description for the service account.
Click 'Create and Continue'.
You can skip granting roles and access for now. Click 'Done'.
3b. Create a Key File
In the list of service accounts, click on the newly created account.
Go to the 'Keys' tab.
Click 'Add Key' > 'Create New Key'.
Select 'JSON' as the key type and click 'Create'.
A JSON file will be downloaded—store this securely, as it contains sensitive credentials.
4. Share a Drive Folder
Go to https://drive.google.com/ and create a new folder.
Right-click the folder and select 'Share'.
Copy the client email from your JSON key file.
Paste this email into the sharing dialog and give it 'Editor' access.
This allows the service account to access and upload files into this folder.
Odoo Configuration
To Navigate this feature Go to the Documents > configuration > Settings.
Here, you can view the Google Drive credentials and designated storage folder. You can upload the service account credentials file and specify the Google Drive folder where documents should be stored.
To access this feature, navigate to Documents > Configuration > Fetch Drive Document
When you click on the "Fetch Drive Document" menu, the system retrieves all files stored in your linked Google Drive folder and syncs them with Odoo’s Document Management System. This ensures that all documents are up to date and easily accessible within Odoo
